fighting florida weather
Sometimes, Florida weather has its own plans, and as a photographer, I’ve learned to embrace the beauty of spontaneity and surprises. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning family during a session at Redington Shores. This particular day was one for the books, filled with adventure, laughter, and just a touch of drama from Mother Nature!
Our original session was scheduled for the day prior, but then stormy weather rolled into the area, forcing us to reschedule. The rescheduled date was their last opportunity to take photos before heading back home out of state. I couldn’t let them down—I knew we had to make the most of this chance!
When they arrived, I was greeted by the warmest smiles and a relaxed energy that instantly put me at ease. The family was simply stunning—full of life, laughter, and the kind of love that translates effortlessly into beautiful images. As I captured candid moments and posed shots, I couldn’t help but notice how natural they looked together amidst the backdrop of the beach and waves.
Just as we began to find our rhythm, the sky started to shift. We glanced up to see ominous storm clouds gathering in the distance, along with flashes of lightning illuminating the horizon. A sense of urgency washed over us. Time was running out, and we had to make every second count. I suggestively pointed out the approaching storm but reassured them that we were still in safe territory, encouraging everyone to focus on the fun we were having.
We pressed on, capturing their playful interactions as the waves crashed behind them. I can’t stress enough how fun and easygoing this family was! They were game for anything, whether it was running along the shoreline, posing with silly faces, or simply holding each other close while I snapped away.
Surprisingly, as the dark clouds loomed nearby, we found ourselves in a pocket of tranquility—the storm seemed to be heading in a different direction entirely, leaving us untouchable to the rain. I could hardly believe it. In fact, we continued our session while watching the rain cascade over the beach in the distance, a stunning and surreal sight.
The atmosphere was electrifying, quite literally! The occasional rumble of thunder served as a dramatic backdrop, and I knew our photos would encapsulate this whirlwind of emotions perfectly. We continued to bond and joke as I directed them through a series of poses that allowed their unique personalities to shine.
By the time we wrapped up, I felt a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. Not only had we captured timeless images, but we also shared an experience that would surely be remembered by the family, storm clouds and all.
Despite the weather’s initial intimidation, we managed to create something truly beautiful at Redington Shores—a mix of love, laughter, and the unexpected wildness of nature. Moments like these remind me why I love being a photographer; each session is a unique adventure with its own memories waiting to be captured.
